You can configure background and font colors per specimen type or class in the container map view. This is aimed at making it easy to understand the types of specimens in the box quickly.

Details of each attribute to set color coding for containers in OpenSpecimen are explained in the below table:

Background	Value used to set the background color.
Color	Value used to set the font color.
Opacity	Value used to set the opacity of background color.

Set Color at Specimen Class Level

You can set the color-coding at the specimen class level (I.e., Molecular, Fluid, Cell, and Tissue). All the types under that class will inherit this. This can be overridden at the individual type level.

Log in as a Super Admin.
Navigate to Extras → Dropdown Manager.
Go to 'Specimen Type' and select any class (molecular, fluid, cell, or tissue).
Click on 'Edit'.

Under ‘Properties', add ‘container_color_code’ under ‘Name’ and ‘background= yellow, opacity= 0.6’ under 'Value’.

You can add any color for the background and font in this format.
If you set the color at specimen class level, all specimen types under the ‘Cell' class will be displayed in 'Yellow’ color with an opacity of 60%.

Similarly, another example to have the inner test tube image colored is to add under ‘Properties', add ‘container_color_code’ under ‘Name’ and ‘background=crimson, color=black, opacity=0.6 'Value’.
All the fluid samples will now have the inner test tube in black color.

Set Color at Specimen Type Level

You can set a color code for a specimen type level. E.g., whole blood, urine, saliva, etc. This will override any specimen class level setting.

Log in as a Super Admin.
Navigate to Extras → Dropdown Manager.
Go to 'Specimen Type' and select any specimen type (whole blood, urine, saliva, and so on).

Click on 'Edit'

Under ‘Properties', add ‘container_color_code’ under ‘Name’ and ‘background=red, opacity=0.8’ under 'Value’.

Whole Blood specimens will be seen in red color.

View Color Coding Legend

Go to the map view of the container where the specimens are stored and click on the 'View Color Coding' link.

A pop-up window will be displayed with the details of the color set for different specimen types stored in the particular box.
