Shipments

Shipment feature is used when users need to have a record of sent and received for specimens/ containers. It is mandatory that both the user (sender and receiver) are using the same instance of OpenSpecimen to track the specimens.

OpenSpecimen supports two workflows as mentioned below

1. Create Shipment → Receive Shipment: This is used when one site sends specimen/ boxes to other site
2. Shipment Request → Create Shipment → Receive Shipment: This is used when researchers/ PIs store their specimens/ boxes in a centralize freezer facility. They need to request specimens to freezer facility and freezer facility can send the specimens to the requesting site.

OpenSpecimen supports two types of shipments:

• Shipment of Specimens
• Shipment of Containers
