Case 1: Add Participant

When adding a new participant, if any of these fields MRN and Site, eMPI, SSN match the existing participant then you will be navigated to 'Edit Participant' page. On this page, you can review and update the details if needed.

If you try to register a participant with the same last name and DOB, the system will ask you whether to reuse the match or ignore the match and create a new participant.

If you select the participant and click ‘Use Selected Participant’: Fill the details with the matched participant. You can edit any details if wanted. The previous participant data is retained.

If you click on ‘Ignore Matches and Proceed’, then the system will register the new participant with different details.

Case 2: Edit Participant

When editing a participant, if any of these fields MRN and Site, eMPI, SSN match the existing participant then the system asks you to merge the participants.

Select the participant and click on 'Merge with the Selected Participant'

When you merge P1 with P2, the SSN from P1 will be lost.
Merging will move all the visits and specimens from P1 to P2 and delete P1.

When editing a participant, if last name and DOB combination matches that of an existing participant, then the system asks you to merge the participants.

If you select the participant and click on ‘Merge with Selected Participant’, this will merge the participants and the old participant will be deleted from the system.

If you click on ‘Ignore Matches and Proceed’, then the system will allow the user to update the participant details, and all the visits and specimens are retained.
