Why can non-super admins not perform aggregate queries containing PHI fields?

OpenSpecimen has to calculate which user has PHI access on which CP for PHI fields. While for data queries, this can be done easily, for aggregate (count) queries, this masking can be very expensive and complex. Based on the size of the data, this can crash the servers.

Therefore, OpenSpecimen does not support this feature.

There is no workaround for this, other than super-admins running such reports. Or running this report using a non-PHI field like PPID.

Unfortunately, there is no immediate plan to fix this issue.
