Virtual Container During Shipment
When ‘Site A’ sends a shipment to ‘Site B’, the items are kept in a temporary location during transit until the 'Site B' coordinator gets them and puts them in the actual containers.
To make this easier, OpenSpecimen creates a 'Virtual Container' for each receiving site. These containers are only for shipments and are not meant for storing specimens.
Why is the 'Virtual Container' needed?
After the shipment is sent, Site 1 should not have access to the items anymore. So, the items are placed in the 'Virtual Container' of the receiving site.
