Specimen Type

Introduction

The ‘Specimen Type’ dropdown defines the available list of specimen types. Each specimen type belongs to a 'Specimen class,' such as Fluid, Molecular, Tissue, Cell, and others. In recent versions, OpenSpecimen has added the ability to create custom specimen classes and support for multiple specimen units per specimen type per Collection Protocol.

Before version 10.3, the system supported only four specimen classes: Fluid, Molecular, Tissue, and Cell. However, starting with version 10.3, users can now incorporate additional specimen classes such as plants, microbes, and more, tailored to their specific needs.
