Shipment feature is used when you are sending specimens to either an on-site or an off-site storage location. But it users need to have a record of sent and received for specimens/ containers. It is mandatory that both the user (sender and receiver) are using the same instance of OpenSpecimen to track the specimens. It supports both the workflows as mentioned below
- Create Shipment → Receive Shipment: This is used when one site sends specimen/ boxes to other site
- Shipment Request → Create Shipment → Receive Shipment: This is used when researchers/ PIs store their specimens/ boxes in a centralize freezer facility. They need to request specimens to freezer facility and freezer facility can send the specimens to the requesting site.
