FAQ: Duplicate login name or email error when creating a user

When creating a new user in OpenSpecimen, you may see:

Error: User with the same login name exists. (USER_DUP_LOGIN_NAME)

The same login name may already belong to a Locked, Archived, or Inactive user.

If the user is not shown in the Users list, it may be because the list shows only Active users by default.

How to find Locked, Archived, or Inactive users

  1. Go to the Users list.

  2. Click on filters.

  3. Search again by login name.

  4. Use Activity Status to search for Locked, Archived, or Inactive users.

If the user exists, reactivate/unlock the account.

Error: User with the same email ID already exists. (USER_DUP_EMAIL)

If you cannot find the user by login name, then you can use the email, and the ‘Global Search’ to locate the user. Once found, you can edit or update the details.
