Introduction

The Transfer Specimens feature in OpenSpecimen moves specimens from one storage container to another. This module updates the location coordinates of the specimens in the database to match their physical movement. It records every change of location to maintain a chain of custody for compliance and inventory tracking.

Options

One specimen at time

Users can transfer specimens one by one by selecting an individual item and updating its container location.

Bulk transfer via UI

For larger groups, the user interface allows selecting multiple specimens to move hundreds of samples at once.

Bulk transfer via CSV

To move thousands of specimens, users can upload a CSV file with the new location details. This import method updates the inventory system in a single operation.
