FAQ: Does the "Save PHI data" setting override participant identifier mappings?

No. Even if "Save PHI data" is set to "Disabled," record matching will still occur if those fields are mapped to Participant Identifiers (e.g., MRN, eMPI, or External Subject ID).

  • Priority: OpenSpecimen prioritizes identifier mapping over the PHI privacy setting.

  • Visibility: Fields mapped as identifiers will ignore the "Disabled" PHI setting and remain visible on the Participant Overview page to support record matching.

The mapped PHI fields will be visible in the participant overview page.
