How to resolve the error Box cannot hold 'Specimen' due to Container Restriction?

You may receive an error: Container ‘-20F494.S1.R1.B1’ can not hold specimen ‘000123_WB3’ due to restrictions. This is a common occurrence when manually storing multiple specimens.

Things to Check

  1. Specimen Type Restriction: Most likely, the specimen type you are storing is not allowed to be stored in the container.

  2. Collection Protocol Restriction: Alternatively, even if the specimen type is allowed, the container allows storing specimens of a particular collection protocol.

What To Do Next?

  1. If you are not sure which other container would allow you to store the particular specimen, you can use the 'Find Spaces' feature of OpenSpecimen to know the matching available containers.
Refer to https://openspecimen.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CAT/pages/2859696240 page for details.

  2. Edit/Update the Container Restriction to include the missing ‘Specimen Type’ or ‘Collection Protocol’, so that it allows you to store the specimen. Refer to https://openspecimen.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CAT/pages/113869072/Creating+storage+containers#Edit-Containers page for details.
