Label file components
Components of the Label file
Each generated label file has 3 main components
Label Type: First field of the label file. Based on the value in this field, printing software needs to use an appropriate template for printing. E.g., Lab A Tissue Labels, Label A Fluid Labels, Std, etc.
Printer: Second field of the label file. Based on the value in this field, printing software should route the label to be printed to the correct printer. E.g., Printer 1, Brady Printer Lab 1, Laser Printer Lab 2, etc.
Print Tokens: Based on the tokens included in the print rule, different values are provided as separate columns. These should be used as input to print labels. E.g., Specimen Label, Specimen Type, PPID, Visit Name, etc.
Types of label files
Label files are generated by OpenSpecimen in 3 different formats
CSV
CMD
CMD (Quoted Values)
These formats are supported in almost all printing software for consumption. Depending on the needs of client-side IT, you can decide the right file type.
