Associate pre-barcoded tubes with OpenSpecimen kits
From v12.0, OpenSpecimen supports associating pre-barcoded tubes (2D barcodes/ QR codes) with the OpenSpecimen kits to efficiently use it with box scanners. Many labs stick to standard vials for most specimens but selectively use pre-barcoded tubes for certain specimen types, e.g. DNA, RNA.
Collection protocol settings
A new checkbox is added in the specimen requirements (SR) to specifically define which SR will have pre-barcoded tubes. The option is visible only if Specimen Barcoding is ‘Enabled’ in the label format settings.
The option is available for all specimen lineages (primary, derivatives, aliquots)
General Workflow
Users will create specimen kits
Navigate to supplies items
Select kits for which user needs to associate barcodes from pre-barcoded tubes → Assign Barcodes
It should start a workflow with 1 task for each kit. All SRs where ‘Pre-Barcoded Tube’ is enabled will appear in task.
On association, users can
Reprint Kits with the associated barcodes
Check the associated barcodes in Utilisation report (column name: Alternate Barcode)
Export the Specimen CSV in ‘master specimen template’ with associated barcodes in column Barcode
