Reusing Kits across Events

Often CPs have same or subset of specimens collected across events. In such scenario, labs do not want to create event specimens kits since it makes it cumbersome for sites to keep track of which kit to use for each event.

OpenSpecimen allows using a kit created for one event in another event as long as the Specimen Requirements code is same in both events. The SR Code is used to match a specimen in the kit with the specimen requirement in the event.

Tip: The easiest way to create such events is to use the “Clone” feature in CP Events.

Reusing Kits across Collection Protocols

CPs are often designed based on specific set of clinical conditions e.g. Malignant carcinoma, benign tumors, melanoma, etc. At the time of kit creation repositories are unaware of the conditions. Thus, they need to utilise kits in appropriate CPs post collection.

OpenSpecimen allows using the created kit in any CP as long as the Specimen Requirements code is same in both events and setting Allow use of barcoded items by other collection protocols? is marked as Yes. The SR Code is used to match a specimen in the kit with the specimen requirement in the event.
