Introduction

The Workflow Plugin allows you to design highly customized lab workflows. A workflow is a sequence of “Tasks” configured based on the lab or study's specimen processing SOP. You can define multiple workflows according to local needs.

Benefits of workflow plugin

  • Improves productivity: We believe that by using Workflows, you can reduce your OpenSpecimen data entry time by more than 50%.

  • Improves data quality using validations.

  • Improves ease of use: The Workflows' regimented wizard-like structure ensures end users follow a step-by-step approach to complete the SOP.

  • Reduce training time for new users

Feature highlights

  1. A workflow consists of multiple tasks in a wizard-like user interface

  2. Each task can be an action (e.g., create a visit, receive specimen, create aliquots, store, etc.)

  3. Each task can have data collection based on standard or custom fields

  4. Branching logic based on the previous task

  5. Workflows can be assigned to one or more CPs

  6. Workflows can be assigned to user groups (e.g., blood processing is done by one user, tissue processing is done by another user)

  7. Define validations and deviations

  8. Waiting list of specimens (users can see how many specimens are waiting to be processed)

FAQs

  1. What skills do you need to develop workflows?

A. You require some basic technical background because configuring workflows needs JSON and JavaScript (JS) files.

  1. Can a workflow be used across multiple CPs?

A. Yes, you can use the same workflow if the procedure is the same for various CPs. For example, if two CPs process the serum tubes following a standard SOP, both can have a single workflow.
