  1. A workflow consists of multiple tasks in a wizard-like user interface

  2. Each task can be an action (e.g., create a visit, receive specimen, create aliquots, store, etc.)

  3. Each task can have data collection based on standard or custom fields

  4. Branching logic based on the previous task

  5. Workflows can be assigned to one or more CPs

  6. Workflows can be assigned to user groups (e.g., blood processing is done by one user, tissue processing is done by another user)

  7. Define validations and deviations

  8. Waiting list of specimens (users can see how many specimens are waiting to be processed)

Standard vs Custom workflows

From v11.x onwards, regular data entry is done via standard workflows. These standard workflows comes with OpenSpecimen at ‘No additional cost’.

If you want to create any custom workflows specific to your needs, it needs to be purchased separately.

  1. What skills do you need to develop workflows?

A. You require some basic technical background because configuring workflows needs JSON and JavaScript (JS) files.

  1. Can a workflow be used across multiple CPs?

A. Yes, you can use the same workflow if the procedure is the same for various CPs. For example, if two CPs process the serum tubes following a standard SOP, both can have a single workflow.
